Whether you were just diagnosed, are undergoing treatment, or are in remission of cancer- physical fitness is one of the best things that you can do for your health. Research has proven that a consistent exercise routine has many benefits.

Exercise is beneficial for your overall health and quality of life. It improves your circulation, the health of your bones, and increases your appetite. It also greatly improves the health of your muscles by rebuilding lost muscle mass. Research has found that exercise can also decrease nausea and pain, and that cardiovascular activity can boost your immune system. Another benefit of regular exercise is that it reduces fatigue and creates an energy balance in your body. Suggestive, but by no means definitive studies show exercising may make you have a less likely chance of relapsing and dying from cancer.

Exercise can also be very helpful to your morale. It can keep you focused and positive, take your mind off of negative aspects in your life, and decrease stress. Exercise has been linked to improved rates of self-esteem and general emotional well-being and reducing depression and anxiety. For an added boost of morale, it could also be very beneficial to look for an exercise program for cancer patients in your community and find others to work out with.

There are also important considerations to take heed of before developing an exercise routine. It is very important that you discuss exercising with your doctor and develop and individualized plan because every person is different. Exercise can impair patients with reduced lung function, such as those who are undergoing mesothelioma treatment who will need to start slow with light exercise. Your physician will advise you on your preferable frequency and intensity and what activities are safe for you. Cancer patients beginning their exercise routine should start slowly and moderately, as exercising too much, too fast should be avoided. Choose activities that are easily accessible, comfortable and enjoyable. Timing is also important. Cancer patients undergoing their first chemotherapy treatment therapy should wait until their cycle is complete. For those using radiation therapies- you should decrease the intensity of exercise towards the end of your treatment cycle. It is also important to listen to your body: You should skip your routine if you are not feeling well enough to participate. Also, Inform your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision, dizziness or swelling.

For those out there who are just not all that thrilled with Tropical Shakeology and not a fan of Greenberry at all, here’s a combo that will surprise you. I’ve now made this several times for my 8 year old who has been requesting it as a “snack”. I don’t use as much of the Shakeology but he gets both flavors and really enjoys his after school Shakeology Snack

1/2 scoop Tropical
1/2 scoop Greenberry
1 cup water
1 cup almond milk
1 banana
3 strawberries
icemix and let sit for a few minutes, mix again and enjoy.

The Greenberry takes some of the sweetness away that I found overpowering and the sweetness from Tropical smooths out Greenberry, the extra minutes of it “resting” removes the grittiness from the Tropical protein blend.

Also try a 50-50 mix of Tropical and Chocolate without the strawberries, that’s one of my favorites so far.

P90X2 was released and started shipping last Monday, anyone who pre-ordered it should have received their copy by now. Since I was one who was on the list, I got mine!

Having done the first two workouts in the rotation, CoreX2 and Plyocide here’s my little review of the workouts so far. FUN! Challenging and a perfect addition to your P90X library of workouts. There is a need for a lot more equipment in P90X2 however I’ve found that you can get a great workout without it. For example, we did Plyocide at our Fit Club the other night and only a few folks had some of the equipment they brought with but most didn’t. Those of us who were without the equipment just followed “Roberto” on the DVD and made the necessary modifications. Result: Sweaty bodies everywhere!

On a side note I will say that as compared to P90X and P90X One on One Vol 3 these workouts seem sort of “in between”. By that I mean they’re not as fast paced as the original but they are very different! The One on One workouts in my opinion are a lot harder however because Tony Horton does more queuing, a.k.a. talking, they aren’t as difficult to keep up with.

The net of it all is that P90X2 is the new program I was hoping it would be and well worth the investment. If you don’t already have the program I recommend you get it, you’ll love the program, it will do the trick for you! And if you’d like to challenge yourself more, get P90X One on One Volume 3!

A little history for you folks first before I get going:

For over 20 years I’ve been a member of one gym or an other starting when I was in the Air Force and going to the local base gym where my buddy Chris dragged me out of my base dorm room and said, “Come One, we’re working out!”. That’s a story for another time. But what started as a simple workout at a crappy base gym turned into a fitness passion. I was ALWAYS a member of a gym and before I got married and had kids I used it 5 times a week. I had some results, but NOTHING compared to the results I got from doing P90X.

Recently I read someone posted that P90X is overrated and that a gym membership was far more valuable. Really? Lets do some numbers just for giggles;

The other day I decided to take my workout, One on One with Tony Horton Thirty Fifteen Routine to the local Gym, (starts with the letter “G”), cost me $5 for a walk in workout. It’s Sunday, kids in the house and I was feeling sluggish so I figured I’d mix it up a bit AND I wanted to try the Lever pullups on a higher pull up bar to see how it would go. They were great by the way, thanks for asking. On the way out I asked the young gal at the front desk for a breakdown for prices.

Option 1: 12 months
$149 Enrollment
$14 First month dues
$14 Last month dues
$25 Credit card processing fee
$199 Total
$14 per month

Option 2: 12 months
$0 Enrollment
$39 First month dues
$39 Last month dues
$25 Credit card processing fee
$103 Total
$39 per month

There is NO Nutritional Plan, No Free Support Coach, No workout schedule or plan, No personal training, just the use of the gym, no chance of winning cash or prizes just for workout out. That’s the value? I’m sorry I don’t see it.

Let’s take a look at P90X
P90X is $119.85, you get a Nutritional Plan, Online support coach, scheduled workout plan, chance to win to $500 when you log your workouts in the online Super Gym, AND I can guarantee you’ll get results in 90 Days! And if P90X isn’t your bag, send it back for a full refund and try one of the many other Beachbody program or go with the “gym” options, chances are if you’re looking for real fitness and weight loss results at a fraction of the price you simply won’t find a better solution then P90X. Don’t believe me? Try it yourself, I double-dog-dare you!
